Cate Morgan – Lead Nurse Professional development MSc, BA (Hons), RGN Working at Cambridge University Hospitals since 1998 in training and education through; the NVQ Assessor role, Practice Development; Lecturer Practitioner in partnership with Homerton School of Health studies,  Senior and Lead Nurse roles in the Career Progression Team and now Lead Nurse for Professional Development for the Clinical Education Support Team.

  • Exploring the CUH Nursing Apprenticeship Pathway, one of the first pathways to provide the option of a 4-year apprenticeship scheme allowing students to earn while they learn before becoming a registered nurse
  • Outlining how the model is made possible by utilising the apprenticeship levy and creating close collaborations with educational institutions
  • Highlighting the key benefits of the pathway including its status for social mobility in attracting applicants from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds due to the ‘earn while you learn’ aspect of the pathway
  • Providing guidance for hospitals and colleges who are developing nursing apprenticeship pathways including the need to invest heavily in personal support such as mentors, pastoral and student support
